Welcome to Villa Mentawai

Located on the tiny tropical paradise of Simakakang island, Villa Mentawai offers its guests more privacy and flexibility than a traditional surf camp setup. 

Suited for groups of 6-10 guests its perfect for those looking to score waves just with your closest friends, away from the masses. Its also perfect for families to share, & is 100% family friendly. 

All packages include a complimentary speedboat to transport you to the surf each day. 

Guests can access the 10 or so waves in the vicinity thanks to one of the fastest and most comfortable speedboats in the Mentawai Islands. The closest waves are just 5 minutes away!

Travel to the resort using the Mentawai Fast Ferry which operates 4 days a week, via Padang (Sun, Mon, Weds and Fri)

Set just a few steps back from your own private beach & backing onto your own private jungle, Villa Mentawai is not your ordinary surf camp set-up.

The villa has been designed to catch the ocean breeze and takes advantage of the abundant natural light. Even at the hottest time of the year, it offers comfortable open air living despite the tropical climate. Surrounded by a beautiful 4,600 m2 luscious garden as well as panoramic ocean views. 

Guests can expect lots of privacy and plenty of space, a trip to Simakakang Island is perfect for families & groups who want to experience the Mentawai Islands on your own schedule. Bring your non surfing family with you - and they will thank you for it!

Kick back and relax in a hammock, catch some rays on a sun lounger or indulge in a movie on the TV (via its USB port). There is also Bluetooth music streaming available on the villa's sound system.

Expect fantastic snorkeling, spear fishing and regular fishing which is also on your door step. There are also some Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUP's) & Kayaks available for the guests, free of charge.

Wifi internet is provided at the villa and is available for emails and light browsing. For those wanting 24/7 internet access, a very reliable 3-4G connection is also available. Buy a SIMPATI sim card with Rp 100,000 ($8) worth of data and you will be set for 2 weeks worth of browsing. Sim cards are available in Tua Pejat village.

There is also a laundry service, beach front terrace and back terrace. Electricity is provided by solar panels and generator when needed. 

Villa Mentawai has 4 bedrooms, which can comfortably accommodate 6-8 guests (10 on request).

Each room is located in the main building and all are Air Conditioned

The 2 upstairs bedrooms share a toilet/washroom and have access to a "Balinese style" outdoor shower on the back terrace.

Meals are typically served on the outside veranda where seating can be adjusted to accommodate large groups, couples or singles.

All guests will be provided breakfast, lunch & dinner each day, with plenty of healthy and delicious meals on offer. Vegetarians can be catered for (given prior notice).

Note: Beer and soft drinks are always available from a "self serve" fridge in the bar as well as esky's on the boat, run as "mini bar" type system. Drinks are then payable at the end of your trip. Guests are always welcome to bring duty free liquor to Villa Mentawai.

All visiting guests have complimentary use of the Villas main speedboat, the Ratu Ombak.

"Ratu Ombak" (Wave Queen) is a brand new boat and is 7.5m in length and fitted with a 250 hp Suzuki outboard. The boat is purpose-built to take guests to the surf breaks, fishing, snorkeling and island-hopping in a fast and safe manner. The boat has a cabin and is fitted with safety equipment including GPS, VHF Radio, Echo sounder, EPIRB & Satellite Phone. 

The "Tinny" is a 5m aluminium dinghy fitted with a Yamha 40hp outboard. The Tinny is used for provision runs to Tua Pejat and logistics, but is also available if the non surfers want to go in to town (Tua Pejat) or explore another island while the surfers are out during the day.

Guests can expect greater flexibility than the set-up at a regular surf camp. When the surf is really on and the weather permits, guests have the option of staying out all day on the Ratu Ombak (above), as its extremely comfortable & very well shaded. Other boats in the region simply cant offer the same service. 

Visiting surfers are also not locked into an early or mid morning surf and a late afternoon surf like that other camps... the surf guide will pick and choose windows when he knows it's going to be best and to avoid the other camps and charters, using the whole available day... This could be any combination of session times or even one mega session in a non crowded time and then head out for a fish in the late afternoon.

There are around 10 waves that are within 5-20 minutes of each other with the majority being left handers. The region certainly suits an intermediate surfer or a surfing family that are looking for the least crowded waves in the Mentawai Islands. 

Guests are expected to bring their own surfboards but it is possible to rent a board in Padang (given prior notice).

The crown jewel of the region (Telescopes) is less than a 15 minute boat ride away.

Villa Mentawai Surf Breaks

Guests need to fly into Padang Airport (PDG), West Sumatra 

We recommend using https://www.skyscanner.net/ and flying into either Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - or Jakarta, Indonesia.  From KL, there is usually one morning flight (1hr) with Air Asia as well as a lunchtime flight to Padang.  From Jakarta, there are over a dozen flights each day that fly into Padang,  from airlines such as Garuda Airlines, Sriwijaya, Citilink & Lion Air. Guests are welcome to make their own way to Tua Pejat in Sipora, where complimentary transport by speedboat from the “Mentawai Fast Ferry” stop in Tua Pejat will transport each guest to Villa Mentawai. This transport takes about 10 minutes (same for the return back to Tua Pejat).

Padang Airport (PDG)

Upon arrival at Padang’s Minangkabau International Airport, you will be greeted by one of our staff members with pre-arranged transport and you'll be taken to your hotel. From this point we can help with any pre-departure needs, like accessing money, where to eat or simply explore this unique and colourful city for a genuine Indonesian experience.

Mentawai Fast Ferry

You'll be collected from your hotel and taken to the ferry port the next morning around 6.00am. The port is very close to where the hotels are found - it's just a short 5-10 minute taxi ride.

Mentawai Fast Ferry - departure times:

Padang – Tua Pejat: Monday, depart 06.30am
Padang – Tua Pejat: Wednesday, depart 06.30am
Padang – Tua Pejat: Friday, depart 07.00am
Padang – Tua Pejat: Sunday*, depart 07.00am

Tua Pejat – Padang: Monday depart 14.30pm

The Ferry crossing time takes around 3 to 4 hours. Guests will arrive in Tua Pejat (Mentawai Port) around 9.30am, where our staff will be waiting to transfer all the baggage to the speedboat and take the guests to the villa, arriving around 10.30am. Crossing times are subject to weather conditions and delays can happen.

Note*: On Sunday the ferry has a stop in Sioban so guests will arrive 2hrs later when arriving in Tuapejat.

On return, guests will depart the resort around lunchtime (with the speedboat) to take the Ferry at 2.30pm. The arrival time in Padang will be approx 6.15pm. Our staff member will transfer you to your hotel as well as the airport the next morning.
