Truly the only 100% locally run and owned (legitimate) surf camp in the Mentawai Islands.

The camp was built by two brothers (Ade and Dodi), who are born and bred in Siberut. Without doubt, they're the most well known and respected local surfers in the region and they'll be by your side all day every day, making sure your stay with them is perfect.

The Shadow is located on a small mentawai island called "Pulau Buasak" and is only for the guests to enjoy! The location is deceptively good too, with access to some of the area’s best secret spots that Dodi and Ade frequent! The boys surf very well (almost certainly better than you do!) - but they'll always surf where you decide to surf! These guys will open their arms to you and welcome you to their little island. By the time you leave this corner of paradise, you will be one of the family. That’s guaranteed.

Guests can travel to the camp from Padang 3 days a week with trips starting & ending in Padang every Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday

Shadow Surf Camp is a medium sized camp, that can accommodate up to 14 guests. One of the more affordable surf camps in the region, surfers of all abilities can be catered for, from beginners to advanced surfers.

All the rooms come with bed sheets, a table and a rack to keep your belongings. Rooms are cleaned daily.

Since it's inception, Shadow Surf Camp has evolved each and every season, continually growing into one of the best surf camps in the entire Mentawai islands. And during the off season of 2023-2024, the team took the camp to the next level, pouring their heart and soul into their latest accomplishment - a brand new swimming pool. 

Tastefully designed, the T-shape pool includes stairs at both ends as well as a small shallow area for kids. The perfect spot to relax & unwind after a hard days surfing, the pool area also has recliners, parasols & has some awesome lighting, for after sunset dips! 

Three meals per day will be provided. 

The chef with years of experience in the Mentawai will cook delicious western food and of course Indonesian cuisine!

The breakfast is continental, American or Indonesian (you can choose) and lunch and dinner a mix of locally caught fish dishes, typical Indonesian food as well as some western dishes from time to time.

The Shadow Surf Camp operates 4 speedboats to transport you to the surf each day.

Speedboats are available two times per day (morning and afternoon) & will take you to the surf spots in the playground area. You will get to surf all day every day with Ade and or Dodi! Growing up in the area, the boys know when and where to be, on any given conditions. There are no better surf guides in the area! And what’s more, is that you’ll certainly benefit from being under the wing of these two local surfers and it’ll almost certainly help you get more waves.

Guests staying at Shadow Surf Camp will have direct access to the 20+ waves of the Playgrounds surf region.

The camp is ideally located next to 3 excellent waves - and although they dont break every day, when they do - the guests will always be there to take advantage of the camps location.

Guests need to fly into Padang Airport, West Sumatra 

We recommend using https://www.skyscanner.net/ and flying into either Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - or Jakarta, Indonesia.  From KL, there is usually one morning flight (1hr) with Air Asia  as well as a lunchtime flight to Padang.  From Jakarta, there are over a dozen flights each day that fly into Padang, from airlines such as Garuda Airlines, Srwijaya, Citilink  & Lion Air. Mentawai Fast Ferry

The safest, most reliable way of travelling between the mainland and the Mentawai islands. Full details: www.mentawaifast.com

From the hotel district, the ferry port is about a 10 minute taxi ride.

Travel days from Padang to Siberut are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. We suggest Saturday to Tuesday as a standard trip. But for example, guests can also do 7 or 14 days (Tues-Tues, Sat-Sat) or 11 days (Tues-Sat).

Note: Thursday is the best day to arrive in the Mentawai!

Note: Tuesday or Saturday is the best day to return to Padang.
Note: Mentawai harbor (in Siberut) to the camp is about a 1hr 30 min speedboat ride
