Trip Information
There's plenty of playful and forgiving waves in the Telos
Those lucky enough to visit this remote corner of Sumatra will not be disappointed. Waves in this region of the Telo islands are suited to both intermediate and advanced surfers, and as a whole, lack the ferocity and fear factor that you'll often find further south in the Mentawai Islands. That's not to say there aren't heavy and hollow waves in the region. It's more that there are *also* plenty of fun and forgiving set-ups - of which the Mentawai islands generally lack.
There's also a number of world class tubes for the more experienced guests
Another huge bonus is that there are relatively very few crowds as well as a "surf etiquette" which seems to regulate the numbers in the line-up. You'll experience far more consideration for other guests than that of the Mentawais.
Telo's 101 is a place suited for just about any surfer of any age with the majority of visitors being a little older & mostly Australian. The vibe, as expected, is super relaxed with the whole staff being extremely warm and welcoming, which is also reflected in the line-ups too. Its also the perfect surf resort to bring your family & non surfing partners where you can truly enjoy a guilt free surf trip!
With around 30 waves on offer throughout the entire Telo Surf region, there's plenty of variety with a good mix of left, rights, soft waves and heavy tubes. All genuinely uncrowded. Being centrally located in the archipelago as well as having 2 of the regions best and fastest boats ultimately means that it's not too difficult to find pumping waves for just about anyone's ability.
The north and south regions work nearly opposite to each other with regards to preferential wind directions. The surf guides have extensive knowledge in both and are guaranteed to head where they know it will be on, be it in the north or south, ensuring you get the best that the day has to offer.
Pinnacles is a super fun right, less than 15 minutes from Telos 101
There's also some World class options even for the most advanced tube hungry surfers
Detailed information for all the surf breaks can be found in the destination's section of the site within the Telo Islands pages.
