Kaini is a tropical boutique resort set on the hillside jungle of Masokut island, boasting an unbeatable location where you can enjoy stunning views of the waves from the comfort of your own balcony, including Pitstops and E-Bay, two picture perfect waves, right outside your front door.
It's also one of the very few 100% locally run & owned surf camps in the Playgrounds surf zone (Mentawai), that offers Western style accommodation, service and delicious food. The only other being Shadow Surf Camp. Given the incredible location as well as the overall quality on offer, it's an extremely good value surf camp.
In addition, there are over 20 other breaks that can be reached within 30 minutes by boat. Packages also include daily speedboat rides to the waves, where you can expect to surf all day long (except for a much-needed rest at lunch!).
Ideal for small groups of 10-12 guests, guests can reach the camp from Padang 3 days a week, with trips starting & ending in Padang every Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday.

Kaini is one of the smaller surf camps in the region & can comfortably accommodate 10 to 12 guests.
The resort has 4 bedrooms; 2 rooms with Queen bed and sofa bed, as well as 2 rooms with 2 bunks in each, that can sleep 4 guests each.

Daily speedboat rides to the surf are included in your package.
Speedboats are available two times per day (morning and afternoon) & will take you to the best surf spots in the playground area. There is no exact time or schedule, although the morning session typically departing around 7am and returning for lunch. The afternoon session usually departs around 2-3pm depending on the guests preferences before returning at dusk. Each trip includes an English speaking and experienced local surf guide. Of course guests have the choice of staying at the camp and simply surfing Pitstops and E-Bay which are right on your doorstep.

Trip Information
Kaini Mentawai is situated in the heart of the surf region, giving guests access to all the nearby waves, none of which are more than 30 minutes away. Guests also enjoy direct access to Pitstops (below), one of the most fun right-handers in the Mentawais. While it’s not the scariest or the hollowest, it offers great fun even at chest-high, and it's just a 30 second walk from the camp.
For those seeking a bit more power, a short paddle from Pitstops, across to the other end of the reef, you'll find E-bay. While it's not as consistent as Pitstops and typically requires head-high waves or bigger to start working, once it does, you'll be rewarded with one of the Mentawais' crown jewels.

Playgrounds Surf Breaks
Guests need to fly into Padang Airport (PDG), West Sumatra
We recommend using www.kayak.com and flying into Jakarta, Indonesia.
From Jakarta, there are over a dozen flights each day that fly into Padang, from airlines such as Garuda Airlines (always recommended), Batik & Citilink. Avoid Lion Air when possible.
It’s also possible to fly to Padang via Kuala Lumpur although (only 2 flights each day) or via Singapore although there are usually no direct flights to Padang. However, from Singapore you can also fly directly to Padang via Batam. In general, we recommend Jakarta is the most convenient and reliable way to reach Padang.
Please note, on average a standard shortboard costs around IDR 200k to 500k “per board”, per domestic flight, paid in IDR cash at the counter.
Note that if you book with Garuda, your board bag will be free up to 20-40kg’s depending on your ticket.

Mentawai Fast Ferry

From the hotel district, the ferry port is about a 10 minute taxi ride.
Travel days from Padang to Siberut are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Travel Insurance
Please note that Travel Insurance with emergency evacuation is compulsory for all trips.
We recommend that you take it out as soon as you’ve paid your DEPOSIT in case you can’t make your trip (due personal injury, family issues etc.)
We also highly recommend that your insurance also covers flight changes in case you need to go back home on a different date than originally booked, and also trip cancelation for any unexpected reason (for ex., pandemics, injury/accident before or during the trip, bad weather, natural catastrophe, charter boat falling into disrepair, etc.).
