Vaya Mentawai is a premium all-inclusive surf camp set right on the beach in the Mentawai Islands, where you wake up to the sound of reef breaks and spend your days chasing perfect waves with the help of an experienced local surf guide.

Daily life at Vaya flows with the tides: surf twice a day on the boat with guide-led sessions that chase the best conditions, return to the infinity pool or chill zones between sets, share meals under the palms, and enjoy sunsets over E-Bay right from the camp. 

More than 20 world-class waves are a short boat ride away, offering everything from playful walls to legendary reef breaks, with surf trips organized around swell and wind so you catch the best waves each day. 

Trips start and end in line with ferries from Padang (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays), and all-inclusive packages cover accommodation, meals, transfers between Siberut and camp, daily boat trips, surf guiding, pool access, Wi-Fi, soft drinks/snacks, and more.

Breakfast Menu

Daily speedboat transfers to the surf are included in your package.

Two guided boat sessions run each day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, taking guests to the best waves in the Playgrounds area based on conditions.

There’s no fixed timetable, but the morning surf usually departs around 7am and returns in time for lunch, while the afternoon session typically leaves between 2–3pm, returning around dusk depending on guest preference.

Each boat trip is led by an experienced, English-speaking local surf guide. Guests are also welcome to stay at Vaya and simply surf Pitstops or E-Bay, both located in very close proximity to Vaya.

Vaya is ideally located in the middle of the surf zone, providing easy access to all surrounding breaks, with no wave more than 30 minutes away by boat. 

Guests will also have direct access to one of the Mentawai Islands crown jewels, E-Bay. Although not the most consistent wave in the region, E-Bay rewards patience with one of the Mentawais’ true standout left handers when it’s firing.

Guests also have access to Pitstops, one of the most enjoyable right-handers in the Mentawais, which is just a short 5-10 minute walk away. While it’s not the heaviest or most hollow wave in the region, it delivers fun, playful rides even at chest-high & is a very dependable wave.

Playgrounds Surf Breaks

Guests need to fly into Padang Airport (PDG), West Sumatra 

We recommend using www.kayak.com and flying into Jakarta, Indonesia.

From Jakarta, there are over a dozen flights each day that fly into Padang, from airlines such as Garuda Airlines (always recommended), Batik & Citilink. Avoid Lion Air when possible.

It’s also possible to fly to Padang via Kuala Lumpur although (only 2 flights each day) or via Singapore although there are usually no direct flights to Padang. However, from Singapore you can also fly directly to Padang via Batam. In general, we recommend Jakarta is the most convenient and reliable way to reach Padang.

Please note, on average a standard shortboard costs around IDR 200k to 500k “per board”, per domestic flight, paid in IDR cash at the counter.

Note that if you book with Garuda, your board bag will be free up to 20-40kg’s depending on your ticket.

Mentawai Fast Ferry

The safest, most reliable way of travelling between the mainland and the Mentawai islands. Full details: www.mentawaifast.com

From the hotel district, the ferry port is about a 10 minute taxi ride.

Travel days from Padang to Siberut are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Saturday: FAST FERRY departs 15.00, arrives Padang around 18.30pm

Note: Tuesday or Saturday is the best day to return to Padang.
Note: Mentawai harbor (in Siberut) to the camp is about a 1hr 30 min speedboat ride

All guests need to pay for each board bag on the fast ferry.
