Best camp in Simeulue!

By Jack Davies, 6th May 2016

First time in Simeulue and won’t be the last. The waves are super fun and Dylan’s is a cracker! The camps location is ideal; it’s the best on the point by far. The food and accommodation is good too. Totally stoked, Jack.

Great waves

By Simon Wicks, 12th June 2017

Overall a great trip. There was a few crew about at Dylans but super mellow line up. If you want to find zero crowds just hit the road and go explore, this place is a go-er, yeew.

Take me back!

By Pete Davidson, 9th August 2016

Thanks to Bunga and Dave for a great trip. Heard mixed reviews on the wave quality but overall the surf was very good and generally uncrowded. Sometimes there’s a little pack out at Dylan’s but it’s pretty cruisey in general. Accommodation & food was great and the staff always had a smile. Location was on the money. Thanks again, Pete.

Guests staying at Salt Simeulue will have direct access to Dylans right which breaks directly in front of the bungalows and restaurant. No other camp can compete with these views or the accessibility to Dylan’s Right. For those looking to explore the coastline, guests have free use of scooters (with surfboard racks) during their stay. Our surf guides will be happy to direct you to the majority of the other waves that can be reached by using the coastal road. There are around a dozen named waves within a 60 minute drive and a few other waves do require a boat trip that can also be arranged when staying at the camp.

Simeulue is technically part of Aceh with nearly all of its population being Sunni Muslims. Although extremely friendly, they do expect their beliefs to be considered. The main things to know prior to travel is that women are recommended to dress modestly, and to avoid wearing low plunge tops, bikinis, mini shorts or mini skirts. Most women who visit simply wear t-shirts with sarongs or t-shirts and casual loose summer pants/knee length shorts/knee length dresses and wear a t-shirt/rash with board shorts when they go for a surf. Girls can wear bikinis within the camps grounds as well as the outer islands when they surf but be prepared for a lot of staring by the boat men. That said, the people are very relaxed in Simeulue and girls are free to ride around alone without feeling intimidated. The second thing to consider is that alcohol is generally not sold on the islands other than at the camps where beer is available. Overall, its a very warm and welcoming island much like the rest of Sumatra.

Detailed information for all of Simeulue's surf breaks can be found in the destination's section of the site within the Simeulue pages.

Check them out here: Simeulue Surf Breaks

Dylan's Right, slap bang in front of Salt's bungalows.

Guests staying at Salt Simeulue will have unprecedented access to Simeulue's best wave, Dylans Right.

Each of the bungalows has excellent views of Dylan's Right being located directly in front of the wave. Salt has without question the best views and access of any of the local camps, most of which are set inland a little or not in front of the wave, so you'll never miss a beat.

Once you're checked in, you're free to go for a surf out the front or to explore on one of the scooters available at the camp.
