Simeulue is technically part of Aceh with nearly all of its population being Sunni Muslims. Although extremely friendly, they do expect their beliefs to be considered. The main things to know prior to travel is that women are recommended to dress modestly, and to avoid wearing low plunge tops, bikinis, mini shorts or mini skirts. Most women who visit simply wear t-shirts with sarongs or t-shirts and casual loose summer pants/knee length shorts/knee length dresses and wear a t-shirt/rash with board shorts when they go for a surf. Girls can wear bikinis within the camps grounds as well as the outer islands when they surf but be prepared for a lot of staring by the boat men. That said, the people are very relaxed in Simeulue and girls are free to ride around alone without feeling intimidated. The second thing to consider is that alcohol is generally not sold on the islands other than at the camps where beer is available. Overall, its a very warm and welcoming island much like the rest of Sumatra.
Trip Information
Detailed information for all of Simeulue's surf breaks can be found in the destination's section of the site within the Simeulue pages.

Dylan's Right, slap bang in front of Salt's bungalows.
Guests staying at Salt Simeulue will have unprecedented access to Simeulue's best wave, Dylans Right.
Each of the bungalows has excellent views of Dylan's Right being located directly in front of the wave. Salt has without question the best views and access of any of the local camps, most of which are set inland a little or not in front of the wave, so you'll never miss a beat.
Salt is also located in the heart of the surf region. To the north you have The Peak, some beach breaks & Monkey Trees. In the direct vicinity, you have Dylan's right on your doorstep & Dylan's left not far away. You're also the closest camp to Tea Bags, where you can be conveniently collected/dropped off from a local beach (5 min walk away). Then to the south you have a number of other waves including One Thong, Alus Alus & Thailands.

Thanks to Bunga and Dave for a great trip. Heard mixed reviews on the wave quality but overall the surf was very good and generally uncrowded. Sometimes there’s a little pack out at Dylan’s but it’s pretty cruisey in general. Accommodation & food was great and the staff always had a smile. Location was on the money. Thanks again, Pete.
By Simon Wicks
Overall a great trip. There was a few crew about at Dylans but super mellow line up. If you want to find zero crowds just hit the road and go explore, this place is a go-er, yeew.

First time in Simeulue and won’t be the last. The waves are super fun and Dylan’s is a cracker! The camps location is ideal; it’s the best on the point by far. The food and accommodation is good too. Totally stoked, Jack.
