“Seriti” is the proud home to one of the most experienced crew in Sumatra, operating trips to both the Mentawai & Banyak Islands since 2000. A large and spacious 25m aluminium vessel that was originally built in the USA but has since been customised for surf charter trips. Sleeping 12 passengers (in 2 large air conditioned bedrooms), guests have a common area inside (a/c) as well as at the rear of the boat where there is a huge shaded deck area as well as an additional top deck (also shaded) to sit back and watch your mates get slotted in between surfs.

The extremely experienced crew will provide you with the best possible knowledge for either the Mentawai or the Banyak Islands. Many of the the bookings on the Seriti are return customers, a clear sign of customer satisfaction.

There are 12 beds comprising 2 doubles and 10 king singles each with power socket and reading light. Comfortable inner-sprung mattresses throughout with two air-conditioned cabins and a separate quarters for up to 6 crew. Spacious and comfortable, it features an air conditioned saloon with two large sofas, tables and TV/video/music entertainment area.

At the rear of the boat is a huge deck area hard covered where you can watch the action in the water, or head up to the top deck for a 360-degree view of the beautiful Banyak's which also has a great sound system. Hammock options also available.

When booking a trip aboard Seriti, guests will have the chance to surf either the Banyak islands or the Mentawai islands.

Seriti will typically be based in the Banyak islands from June to October when the swells are at their peak. The boat will then be in the Ments from March to May as well as October and November when the surf is still very consistent (for Mentawai) but less consistent in the Banyaks. 



Banyak islands

The “many” islands, lie off the west coast of Northern Sumatra, nestled between the island of Nias to the south and south east of Simeulue, to the North. These sparsely inhabited islands are home to world class waves including “Treasure Island” as well as a wave dense cluster of breaks, found in the “Bay of Plenty”. And in similar fashion to its neighbouring archipelagos, perfect waves break on its shores with extreme frequency. Located just above the equator, winds are generally light year round.  

Each trip requires a minimum of 8 guests and a maximum of 12 guests. We're always happy to book in single guests and small groups to fill the remaining spaces. 

The best time of year to surf “The Banyaks” is during the dry season, which can be anytime from May to October, when the Indian Ocean produces its most consistent groundswells. Note that the biggest swells are typically from June to August.

For the tube hungry, we'd recommend sticking to the Mentawai islands that boasts the widest selection of world class waves.

Banyak islands trips

Guests need to fly into Gunung Sitoli Airport (GNS), Nias, Sumatra 

Arrival into GNS by (latest) 2pm.

Guests will then be taken by taxi (2hrs) to the port in Lahewa, Nias. The taxi & meet and greet is included in your package.

The boat departs at 6-7pm. 

On your return, departure flights out of GNS should be 11am (or later) on the last day of the trip.

Flights 

We suggest using www.kayak.com and flying into either Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - or Jakarta, Indonesia (recommended). From either of these destinations, you'll then need to take a further flight to Medan (KNO).

From Medan you will also need to take a short flight to Gunung Sitoli, Nias (GNS). We suggest arriving on a morning flight. This can be booked on www.traveloka.com

Please note, on average, a standard shortboard costs around IDR 200k to 500k “per board”, per domestic flight, paid in IDR cash at the counter. Wings Air which operate the majority of flights to Nias, charge IDR 1,000,000 per board. To ensure your board bags safe arrival into GNS, we suggest to get in touch with Ray from Boraspati Express (travel agent). He’s excellent and I’d recommend reaching out to him prior to travel and connect via email and WhatsApp. He will ensure your board bags safe travel from Medan to Nias (and back). 

For those with a little extra time, we suggest spending a couple of nights in Nias at the start of your trip to warm up a little and shake off the jet-lag. There are plenty of surf camps at Lugundri Bay, or for those looking to escape the crowds, check out Puri Asu Resort which is located on a small island chain just off the coast of Nias (accessed by a 30 minute speedboat ride).

If staying the night in Medan, we recommend staying at Anara Sky Kualanamu Hotel which is in the airport. No need to go into the city.

Mentawai islands trips

Guests need to fly into Padang Airport, West Sumatra 

Arrival into Padang by (latest) 1pm.

The boat departs at 6pm.  Departure flights should be from 1pm (onwards) on the last day of the trip.

Flights 

We recommend using www.kayak.com and flying into Jakarta, Indonesia. From Jakarta, there are over a dozen flights each day that fly into Padang, from airlines such as Garuda Airlines (recommended), Batik & Citilink. Avoid Lion Air. We recommend www.traveloka.com

Please note, on average a standard shortboard costs around IDR 200k to 500k “per board”, per domestic flight, paid in IDR cash at the counter.

If you book with Garuda, your board bag will be free up to 20-23kg’s depending on your ticket.

Banyak trips

Depart harbour around 6pm. You'll wake up the next morning, achored up before daybreak, ready for your first surf.

10 days surfing / 11 nights on board

Return back to port early morning.

Ground staff will take you to the airport in Sibolga (FLZ) in time to catch the morning flight back to Medan (KNO)

Mentawai trips

Depart harbour around from 6pm. You'll wake up the next morning, achored up before daybreak, ready for your first surf.

11 days surfing / 12 nights on board

Return back to port early morning.

Ground staff will take you to the airport in Padang (PDG) where you can fly out after 1pm
