Build in 2018 and inspired by its older counterpart, Moon Palikir, Star Koat 2 offers a high-end surf experience for those navigating the waves of Sumatra. In fact, for a group of 12 surfers, it really doesn't get much better than this. She's bigger, faster & pretty much better, than just about any other vessel in the region.
The accommodation is certainly comfortable with the sleeping quarters being designed for just two guests, per guest cabin, with individual single beds, instead of the traditional bunk-bed configuration found on many surf charters. Convenient bedside plugs are also provided for device charging, accompanied by personal cabinets for secure storage. All cabins are air-conditioned.
The interior living area & dining room are also both air-conditioned & provide a cool retreat from the humidity & relentless sun outside. The indoor dining area is large enough for all guests to eat inside if the group prefers. The living area includes a 50" LCD TV with a choice of movies & is also the perfect spot to unwind after a long day of surfing.
The boat has a number of other chillout spots including 2 large and shaded decks, giving you loads of space to watch the waves and enjoy a sunset beer! There is also ample space for storing all of your boards.
Guests can also benefit from the vessels 2 speedboats, including an 18-foot speedboat with 115 HP engine & a 12-foot tender (15 HP). The larger speedboat is also perfect for checking out other spots in the area & splitting the group.
Standard trips are typically to the Mentawai or Banyak islands, depending on the time of year although the Telos and Hinako's are also visited a few times each season.

Trip Information
When booking a trip aboard Star Koat 2, guests will have the chance to surf either the Banyak islands or the Mentawai islands.
Star Koat 2 will typically operate in the Mentawai islands for most of the season (start and end in Padang), but there are also a handful of trips running in the peak months to the Banyaks islands. Be sure to contact us for more information. 
The “many” (Banyak) islands, lie off the west coast of Northern Sumatra, nestled between the island of Nias to the south and south east of Simeulue, to the North. These sparsely inhabited islands are home to world class waves including “Treasure Island” as well as a wave dense cluster of breaks, found in the “Bay of Plenty”. And in similar fashion to its neighbouring archipelagos, perfect waves break on its shores with extreme frequency. Located just above the equator, winds are generally light year round.
The best time of year to surf “The Banyaks” is during the dry season, which can be anytime from May to October, with the peak months being June to August, when the Indian Ocean produces its most consistent groundswells.
For the tube hungry, & those looking to surf outside of June to August, we'd recommend sticking to the Mentawai islands that boasts the widest selection of world class waves.

Guests need to fly into Padang Airport, West Sumatra
Arrival into Padang by (latest) 1pm (day 1)
The boat departs at 6pm. Departure flights should be from 1pm (onwards) on the last day of the trip.
Flights
We recommend using www.kayak.com and flying into either Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - or Jakarta, Indonesia. From KL, there is usually one morning flight (1hr) with Air Asia as well as a lunchtime flight to Padang.
From Jakarta, there are over a dozen flights each day that fly into Padang, from airlines such as Garuda Airlines, Citilink & Batik Air. We recommend www.traveloka.com
Note: Visa On Arrival: A FREE 30 day Visa On Arrival is now available for a number of countries including: Australia, USA, Brazil, South Africa, New Zealand, Canada, Peru, Costa Rica, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Ireland, England, France, Switzerland, Sweden and Germany.
Arrive Padang airport by 1pm.
A staff member will be waiting to take you to the harbour. If arriving early, you'll be taken somewhere to relax for the morning. Those arriving the day before will be taken to their hotel. All taxis in Padang are included.
Depart harbour 6pm, arrive Mentawai Islands early the next morning.

Return back to Padang early morning.

Fly anytime after 1pm.

For private charter 10 guests pay for 11.
A private charter group of 12 can bring 1 additional guest for free, total 13.
A USD 800 deposit is required to secure your booking (approx. AUD 1200 per person).
Initial deposit is non-refundable but transferable or exchanged with a friend to take your place on that specific date (passengers are responsible for finding their own replacements).
Balance of payments is due 60 days prior to departure and non-refundable 100% (but transferable to another date given prior notice).
Confirmation of your bookings and deposits will be sent via email once the deposit has been received.
Travel Insurance is mandatory for your safety and no guest will be able to depart on the boat trips unless they have copies of their travel insurance documents before departure. We advise all guests take out insurance upon booking in case of accident or personal problems prior to your trip.
By way of payment, all guests agree to abide by the terms & conditions.
One payment per group for initial deposit & a second payment per group for the final balance (60 days prior to arrival).
Guests have 3 ways to make a payment:
1) Bank Transfer
Bank transfer is the most common form of payment. Payments can be made to our Australian, US, Euro, New Zealand or Pound Sterling accounts. On confirmation of booking we will send you the details.
2) Credit Card
Credit Card payments are accepted with a 2.9% fee.
3) PayPal
PayPal payments are available and are subject to a % surcharge from PayPal. These fees are typically around 4% (TBC).

The best experience I had in my whole life of surfing !! The boats are sick, the tripulation are super polite and ready to help you even when you don´t asked for ... the accomodation are very clean and the beds are good. The food was espectacular (if you realize that you are in a boat) and it is as good as a lot of nice restaurants I have in my home town. All the luxury and all the goods its just a detail because the real deal are the waves and the Captain Kadu knows where to go in any kind of conditions, he is always ready to surf together so we can stay more positive and confidence after he shows the waves breaking secrets. In less words, you will never have such experience like that in your life and I´m saving all my money so I can come back next year !
