Odyssey is a 46' power catamaran that caters comfortably for 8 guests (9 on request). Similar to Switchfoot, Tengirri & Wild Cat, she's one of the quicker boats operating in the Mentawai region (with day time cruising of 10+ knots).

Built in 2013, this catamaran is equipped with all the modern amenities and safety features you’d expect. With four private sleeping cabins, she offers guests enhanced privacy and a restful night’s sleep. Odyssey is also more stable than single-hull boats, reducing swaying and minimizing sea sickness, ensuring a more comfortable onboard experience, especially while resting. Onboard comforts include a flat-screen TV, a large selection of movies, a Bluetooth stereo system, a library with board games, fishing and snorkeling gear, a medical kit, and two speedboats. Guests will enjoy three delicious meals daily, along with complimentary snacks, tea, coffee, and water.

One of the standout features of this impressive vessel is its speed and safety. She cruises at 10+ knots during the day, which is faster than the typical 7-8 knots of most charter boats in the area. Odyssey is outfitted with safety and navigation equipment, including a satellite phone, life rafts, GPS & radar.

Most trips are to the Mentawai Islands, though there are also opportunities for surf trips further north to the Telo Islands.

Odyssey offers a variety of outdoor spaces including the shaded upper back deck which is a perfect spot to relax, while the spacious front deck features seating and bean bags, which is ideal for a sunset beer or two. The lower back deck is the spot for trawling, and panoramic views are available from nearly every area of the boat. 

Inside, the modern, fully air-conditioned saloon and dining area provide a cool refuge from the tropical sun—perfect for watching a movie or reading a book.

While there are larger surf charter boats than the Odyssey, she impresses with four private guest cabins, all with air conditioning, comfortably accommodating 8-9 guests. Many other boats in the region have fewer cabins, which can lead to less privacy and the possibility of sharing with a snorer! Notably, catamarans like the Odyssey are more stable than mono-hulls, meaning less swaying at anchor and a more restful night’s sleep.

Aboard Odyssey, you'll enjoy a variety of fresh, healthy, and flavorful meals each day. The menu features a mix of Indonesian and Western cuisine, with plenty of options to keep you satisfied. Expect healthy and delicious choices, including fresh fish, chicken, steak, and flavorful curries.

Special dietary requirements, such as vegetarian and vegan options, can be accommodated with prior notice.

In addition, you’ll have access to unlimited tea, coffee, and water, along with a selection of snacks, fruit, and juices throughout the day.

With no set meal times, you have complete flexibility to surf when you like and eat at your convenience!

Breakfast:

Start your day with a light breakfast featuring fresh fruit, cereal, bread, coffee, tea, and juices. For a heartier option, enjoy hot dishes like bacon, eggs, pancakes, jaffles, and more.

Lunch & Dinner:

Lunch and dinner offer a range of tasty options, such as steak, chicken curries, burgers, nasi goreng, fish tacos, fajitas, chicken satay, and classic fish and chips.

Snacks:

There’s always an assortment of snacks available, including sashimi, crackers, cheese, nuts, and fresh fruit.

Alcohol:

24 beers per guest are included, with additional beers available for purchase.

Everton Luis

Everton is a Brazilian surf guide with over 15 years of experience in the Mentawais. A talented surf photographer, he has collaborated on major projects with top surf brands and is a sponsored surfer with Hurley. Everton’s unmatched knowledge of the Mentawai regions, swells, tides, and winds makes him one of the most sought-after guides in the area. Often, Everton combines his guiding expertise with his photography skills, providing guests with both guidance and incredible photos or videos of their trip.

Craig Els

Craig is a South African guide who has been living and working full-time in the Mentawais for six years. A former Quiksilver-sponsored surfer, Craig has been coming to the Mentawais since 1995, eventually making it his home. Craig focuses solely on guiding, ensuring you’re always in the right spot at the right time for the best waves.

Photographer/Videographer (price on request)

Documenting your journey is an important part of the experience. Depending on the trip, Odyssey will adapt their team setup as follows:

• Single Guide and Photographer: If Everton is your guide, he may handle both guiding and photography/videography, offering a seamless blend of expertise and creativity.
  
  
• Dedicated Photographer/Videographer: On some trips, will bring in a dedicated professional to handle photos and videos while Craig or another guide focuses exclusively on surf guiding.

No matter the configuration, you’ll receive professional-quality content to remember your adventure.

Behind the scenes, their dedicated Indonesian crew works tirelessly to make your trip as smooth and enjoyable as possible:

• Skipper: Iwan or Danny, both with over 10 years of experience navigating Mentawai waters as captains.

Note: Satellite phone is available for emergency use only. If guests want to use it for any other reason, you will be charged. Please note, some areas of the region have mobile signal. Furthermore, some surf resorts have internet access and occasionally it will be possible to use their facilities.

When booking a trip aboard Odyssey, guests have the option to surf the entire Mentawai Islands or venture further north to the Telo Islands, including parts of Northern Mentawai.

For those craving tubes, we suggest sticking to the Mentawai Islands, which offer a broad range of world-class waves. If you're looking for more user-friendly options, the North Mentawai to Telo Islands route is a great choice and comes with no extra fuel surcharge.

Large groups typically have the freedom to choose their preferred region, while smaller groups or solo surfers should inquire about the specific destination of the charter.

Guests need to fly into Padang Airport, West Sumatra 

Arrival into Padang by (latest) 1pm (day 1)

The boat departs at 6pm.  Departure flights should be from 12pm (onwards) on the last day of the trip.

Flights 

We recommend using www.kayak.com and flying into either Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - or Jakarta, Indonesia. 

From KL, there is usually one morning flight (1hr) with Air Asia  as well as a lunchtime flight to Padang. 

From Jakarta, there are over a dozen flights each day that fly into Padang, from airlines such as Garuda Airlines, Citilink & Batik Air. We recommend www.traveloka.com 

Note: Visa On Arrival: A FREE 30 day Visa On Arrival is now available for a number of countries including: Australia, USA, Brazil, South Africa, New Zealand, Canada, Peru, Costa Rica, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Ireland, England, France, Switzerland, Sweden and Germany. 

Arrive Padang airport by 1pm.

A staff member will be waiting to take you to the harbour. If arriving early, you'll be taken somewhere to relax for the morning. Those arriving the day before will be taken to their hotel. All taxis in Padang are included. 

Depart harbour 6pm, arrive Mentawai Islands early the next morning.

Return back to Padang early morning.

A staff member will take you to the airport or hotel of choice.

Fly anytime after 12pm.

Note: The trip has no fixed route as the surf conditions can change day to day. The crew are always aware of the swell forecast and will update everybody each day to discuss the next move. The captain will usually change location during the night, leaving the opportunity for the guests to enjoy the day surfing.
