Tengirri is a 46' (14 metre) Power catamaran that was designed and built in Australia back in 2004. Since 2005 she's been operating in both the Mentawai and Telo Islands & remains the bench mark for medium sized groups (only 6-8 guests) that are looking for a "higher end" surf experience in West Sumatra.
During recent seasons Tengirri has also been chartering trips departing from Padang, venturing through Telos, Nias, Hinakos and the Banyaks before wrapping things up in Sibolga, Northern Sumatra. The crew then offer a return 11-night trip back to Padang in reverse. No other charter boats are frequently taking this route and so it's particularly popular with those looking to explore a different part of Sumatra and avoid the crowds of the Mentawais.
Where the bigger boats operating in the region typically offer just a handful of guest rooms, Tengirri offers it's guests an impressive 6 private sleeping cabins which means extra privacy for you. Twin hull catamarans are also more stable at night (than single hulls) meaning you'll sleep better too! And like all the top tier vessels in the region, she also boasts plenty of mod cons you'd expect including; TV, I-Pod compatible stereo, media player, satellite phone, fishing & snorkelling gear as well as a speedboat to shuttle you to the waves all day, every day. You can also expect food of the highest quality.
What really separates this surf charter boat from the rest, is it's speed and safety. Although the vast majority of travel time is spent at night, day time cruising speeds can reach a whopping 16-17 knots. That's seriously quick when you compare it to the 7-8 knot charter boat average for the entire region. And with all the safety specs you'd expect, you can always feel safe during your trip.

Twin share cabin
Despite being only 46 feet in length, space & privacy certainly isn't a problem.
Guests can spread out thanks to 3 large outdoor deck areas (back-bottom deck, back-top deck, and front of the boat) that are fully covered from the sun, and are ideal for chilling out & watching the waves.
There's also a spacious indoor saloon and seated dining area that includes a flat screen TV, I-Pod compatible stereo & media player.
Tengirri also boasts 6 guests cabins. These air conditioned sleeping quarters include 2 cabins with a double bed in each; 2 cabins with 2 single beds in each; and 2 cabins with 1 single bed in each.
It's also worth noting that a twin hull catamaran like Tengirri is more stable and rocks less when moored up for the night. And combined with the fact that you probably wont have to share a cabin with the groups "snorer" (there's always at least 1 in a group), you're pretty much guaranteed a better nights sleep than on most other boats operating in the region.

Trip Information
Trips aboard Tengirri are typically to either the Mentawai Islands or further north to the Telo Islands.
However, during recent seasons Tengirri has also been chartering trips departing from Padang, venturing through Telos, Nias, Hinakos & Banyaks before wrapping things up in Sibolga, Northern Sumatra (alternatively take the same trip but in reverse). This trip is particularly popular with those looking to explore a different part of Sumatra and avoid the crowds of the Mentawais.
If you’re looking to book at least 4 guests (and no others have booked ahead of you), then you’ll usually get to choose which region.
Smaller groups and single surfers should enquire as to which region the charter will be heading to.
All regions offer a great range of waves, so it’s best to check out our destinations pages as well as the surf breaks listed there to get an idea of which region you’d prefer to visit.
* Surf Breaks - Mentawai (Playgrounds)
* Surf Breaks - Telo Islands
* Surf Breaks - Banyak Islands

Another awesome trip aboard the Tengirri. A huge thanks to Phil, Oscar, Donald, Rio & Rusty for their hospitality, attention to detail, professionalism and humour.
As per usual, Phil put us in the best waves, with the least people, uncrowded perfection is his motto and he never fails to deliver. Donald once again, created an unbelievable array of delicious and varied dishes you wouldn't get at home!
Can't rave enough about the service and experience, this was my 4th trip on the Tengirri and will be back in January 2020 for another.
Chook Chook Philthy. Yeeeewwwww

Trip of a lifetime! Incredible set up and crew! Everything you could want in a boat trip. Food was out of this world good… Yeah Donny! Nick our guide totally nailed it for locations to get away from the crowds, and provided plenty of flat day fun with fishing, spearing, exploring and beach fun. Oscar the captain getting us on point for pre-dawn (pre-crowd) surfs. Rio and Rusty running a tight ship and keeping us always smiling and relaxed. Such a professional outfit that made us all feel so comfortable and constantly stoked. Yeeaaahhhhh booyyzzzzz!!!

I highly recommend Tengirri for your Mentawai surf charter. Our group of 8 close mates had the time of our lives living aboard the Tengirri for 12 days, surfing epic waves, fishing, spearing, laughing and drinking Bintang. The crew were exceptional, tending to all our needs, were very friendly, fun to be around and served 5-star food the whole time keeping us healthy and happy. These guys have you covered from every angle when it comes to good times and great surf in the Metawai's. Get on board! Yeah Boizzzz.

What a awesome experience. Our group was on 2019 T17 trip and we scored. Couldn't have asked for a better surf trip / vacation. I highly recommend the boat, sergeant-at-arms Luke, captain and crew for keeping us safe, well cared for and in the thick of it.

Phil, Just wanted to let you know I had the best, most professional trip I’ve ever had through Indonesia with Lukey and the crew! I couldn’t speak more highly of the way Luke skippers the boat – he’s incredibly professional, super enthusiastic and always attentive to getting the best service possible to the guests. His management of and work with the crew was outstanding and he looked after me so so well when the head injury was looking quite sketchy. A true professional and a top bloke! You have a fantastic crew on board as well – in particular Rio was super friendly and nothing was ever too much trouble and everything was responded to with a smile! We always felt very safe with Oscar at the wheel and likewise the food was great with Donny (seriously good chef) and Rusty was likewise always professional and attentive. Awesome team – it truly made the trip!

Just got back from a charter. We were lucky with waves at start of trip but had tricky wind and swell at back end. Nick the guide was great at putting us on the right waves and best conditions whilst also doing best to avoid other boats. They were happy to motor when conditions were tricky and Nick was eager to keep us all busy exploring, snorkelling, fishing, spearing, sharing his knowledge. The crew were all super friendly and did all they could for us including chasing us around the boat with an esky full of beers. Food was beyond good, Donnie has it nailed. I couldn't imagine a better experience. Cheers

Just finished another epic Tengirri Surf trip in the Mentawai's during late-Feb; words can't describe how much fun it is and how spoilt you are onboard Tengirri; a comfortable, fast & air-conditioned catamaran. Phil Kiem knows the islands backwards and prides himself getting you to a multitude of surf-breaks first thing in the morning, with off-shore winds and uncrowded perfection !! Love the boat, love Burgerworld and love Donal's cooking, they do everything just right, that was my 7th trip on Tengirri; thanks Philthy !!!
