September 2018
Weather: Mixed bag of weather. But typically sunny and overcast with periodic showers. The occasional storm came through towards the end of the month.
Swell: Apart from some smaller days in the first part of the month, September produced plenty of medium sized swells in the over head to over head and a half range with the occasional bigger day too.
Off shore days: Generally favourable light winds and off shore each morning. Lots of epic early sessions throughout the month. However, like part of August, some onshore or cross shore winds hampering the afternoon sessions. Most of the time it was still surfable in the afternoon, just not as good as the morning sessions, quite often with a bit of bump on the face.
Best sessions: A couple of epic mid tide big days at Iceland were the highlight of the first week of September. That was followed by several excellent sessions at the ever reliable Seven Palms & Scarecrows during the end of the month which kept everyone in the area stoked and smiling. A rare straight west swell produced some perfect and well groomed Telescopes barrels during the third week of September too.
Crowd: Crowds thinned again. Plenty of waves for the guests of Aloita as the season starts to wind down a little.

After thoughts: People often suggest September as one of the best months of surf in the Mentawais. It is! This September was no different with lots of amazing sessions. However, the winds did affect things for part of the month. Particularly in the afternoon. But overall, guests were super stoked and scored plenty of amazing waves! The swell looks set to continue into October, check back next time!
