Krui South Sumatra, Surf Report, April 2018

Surf Report: April 15-30

Weather: Plenty of clear sunny days as we move toward the dry season but still some rain in the afternoons. Light winds, mostly offshore in the morning with a couple of days onshore in the afternoons. Sunsets less dramatic as the dry season haze begins, but still a few awesome cloud formations on the horizon.

Swell: Consistent medium size swell hitting all the Krui breaks with some good south-southwest swell turning on Krui Left and Krui Right. The Peak consistently 2-3 foot with lots of barrels. And always the odd set livening things up. A few days of bigger waves for all the breaks, the left was especially noteworthy the 3rd week of April. Longer wave periods and more power.

Offshore days: Light offshore winds everyday in the morning. Only a few days of onshore winds in the afternoon.

Best sessions: The best sessions were at Krui Left and the Peak with just a few people out. Big swell on the 20th led to some crowding of the Krui area waves, but still lots of waves for everyone. Some really sick barrels and perfect lines. The left and right have had several days of great medium size waves; lots of open faces and the occasional barrel to enjoy..

Crowd: Overall the 2nd half of April was pretty mellow, lots of waves and very few takers.

Surf Report: April 1-14

Weather: Mostly clear sunny days; mid morning the wind turns south-southeast bringing offshore winds all day long. Starting to get a bit of sea haze from the heat and still some rain in the afternoons. Mountains getting hit with big rain nearly everyday but not always reaching here.

Swell
: More consistent medium size swell hitting all the local breaks with a lot of south and south-west direction. Average size 2 to 4 foot with occasional bigger days. Everyone eager for more west swell turning on the left and right. Longer wave periods and more consistent size.

Off shore days: Light offshore winds early everyday with a slight shift mid-morning as the temperature rises then turning offshore all day.

Best
sessions: The best sessions were at the Peak and Leftovers with some sick barrels from the swell that hit during the weekend. Slingshots providing some fun lines while Krui Left had several days of great waves too.

Crowd
: April brings the start of the "main season" with crowds slowly starting to increase in the area. The Krui Pro 2018 has brought a lot of great surfers to the area but the line-up has been mellow and everyone has been getting lots of waves.

After thoughts:
April was a step up from March and delivered the best waves of the season so far. Crowds were pretty light and the weather was generally pretty epic. The forecast looks very promising for May (see below).
