Trip Information
When booking a trip aboard Ombak Kabau, guests can expect to surf across the Mentawai Islands, with itineraries covering the North, Central, or Southern regions depending on swell, wind, and crowd conditions. For tube-hungry surfers chasing the most consistent and world-class waves, we recommend focusing on the Mentawai Islands, which offer the widest variety of high-quality reef breaks.
For those looking for slightly more user-friendly options and a more relaxed pace, trips concentrating on the Northern Mentawai can be a great option or alternatively, swell permitting, heading to the Telo Islands.
Groups booking the full charter will generally have more flexibility in determining the surfing region, while smaller groups or individual surfers should enquire at the time of booking to confirm which area the scheduled charter will be targeting.
Detailed information for all the surf breaks can be found in the destination's section of the site within the Mentawai & Telo pages.

Guests need to fly into Padang Airport (PDG), West Sumatra
We recommend using www.kayak.com and flying into Jakarta, Indonesia.
From Jakarta, there are over a dozen flights each day that fly into Padang, from airlines such as Garuda Airlines (always recommended), Batik & Super Air Jet. Avoid Lion Air when possible.
It’s also possible to fly to Padang via Kuala Lumpur although (only 2-3 flights each day) or via Singapore.

Note that if you book with Garuda, your board bag will be free up to 20-40kg’s depending on your ticket.

Good crew, good food, and plenty of time in the water. The boat isn’t flashy, but it’s well set up for surf trips and felt relaxed the whole time. We got lucky with swell and the captain moved us around smartly.
Luke
If you’re not chasing luxury and just want to surf as much as possible, Ombak Kabau makes a lot of sense. Everything ran smoothly and the price was hard to beat compared to other boats we looked at.
Tom H
Really enjoyed our time on Ombak Kabau. The crew were easygoing and knew where to be each day. Boat’s comfortable enough, food was good, and we scored plenty of waves. Would happily do it again.
