The MV Addiction is the most luxurious surf charter in the Mentawai Islands. At 24 metres (80 ft) in length and 8 metres wide the vessel is also one of the 2 largest boats operating in the region. There are 4 guest cabins, 3 of which have a double bed and single bunk and 1 that has 4 spacious bunks. It has a large gourmet galley, dinner seating for 12 guests and a huge lounge area. There are also two spacious outdoor lounges and dining areas.
The crew aboard this high speed catamaran have over 15 years of combined experience in West Sumatra and with a top speed of 28 knots (most charters cruise at 8-9 knots), there’s no faster way to get you to the surf, meaning more surf time. Nothing offers comfort quite like a large catamaran. No need for gyro controlled stabilizers thanks to 2 hulls and an 8 meter beam. Whether flying along at 20 knots+ or just sitting at anchor, The MV Addiction will be the smoothest ride you ever get.

Trip Information
When booking a trip aboard the Addiction, guests will have the chance to surf either the Mentawai Islands (the whole region) – or further north to the Telo Islands (as well as parts of the Northern Mentawai). If you’re booking a large group then you’ll usually get to choose which region. Smaller groups and single surfers should enquire as to which region the charter will be heading to.
Both regions offer an excellent mix of waves, so it’s best to check out our destinations pages as well as the surf breaks listed here to get an idea of which region you’d prefer to visit.
Either way, expect plenty of picture perfect barrels breaking in crystal clear bath water, just a stone’s throw from palm fringed white sandy shores in a tropical paradise!
With that said, as a rule, the surf is suited more for experienced riders. They keep the status quo & will certainly take more from the long trip to the area. And although the region boasts 100’s of mechanical dreamy set-ups, the majority break over sharp coral reef ready to dish out a fresh tattoo given half a chance. This is primarily the reason we don’t encourage learners or even progressing beginners to the area. When things go wrong, you’ll soon realise that you’re very far away from a hospital.
But with so many waves to choose from, intermediates can find the waves of their lives, without running any real risk of injury.
As for the advanced surfer - the world really is your oyster!
Detailed information for all the surf breaks can be found in the destination's section of the site within the Mentawai & Telo pages.

The trip was perfect. For starters, the organisation as soon as we landed in Padang was on the mark, right until we left 12 days later. We were looked after like kings. The Mentawai islands were everything I expected them to be and the surf was amazing. Double thumbs up to the crew and this amazing vessel.

Such a good trip in every way. Great crew, always friendly & smiling. Tasty and plentiful food. The boat was the most incredible there is, certainly the best I've seen by a long shot. And we scored some mind blowing sessions all to ourselves. What more can you ask for?
By Fred
Thanks for an amazing trip. Certainly a no hassles surf trip where I pushed my surfing and relaxing to new limits! The crew helped us to seek out & surf some of the best waves we'd ever seen. Try it for yourself!

The biggest and fastest there is in Sumatra. Once you've experienced the Addiction you'll be hooked for life!
