Surf Report: July 23rd - August 3rd 2018

Weather: More of a mixed month with plenty of sunny days as well as cloudy periods and even a few storms passing through.

Swell: SSW swell direction, 16 seconds to 19 seconds. 5 foot to 9 foot, one of the largest swells to hit Sumatra in a decade.

Winds: Starting with North East wind switching to West for most of the trip.

Sessions: Awesome trip from the begining where customers enjoyed first sessions at the bay of plenty. The main three breaks were on fire 3 to 6 foot & super clean. This was the same for the next four days before the larger swell hit the banyaks and winds switched. The perfect warm up before things got more serious! One day was a little out of control but we were surfing mini’s inside treasure at a decent 5 foot peeling tubes. No other boats around. Then treasures pumped for about 5 days with classic all time conditions. The last few days were spent at the bay of plenty.

Crowd: Ten days surfing, 5 days sharing with another boat, 3 days alone and two days with three boats. Never more than 10 guys in the line-up :-)

After thoughts: This trip was without doubt one of the best of the season. No question. July really delievered the goods. The swell has certainly been bombarding this corner of Sumatra lately and it looks like its set to continue (see August map below). Check back soon for our next report.
