Domestic Flights – Jakarta (Java) to Sumatra (Bandar Lampung)- 40mins.
The only means of flying into the local airport - is from Jakarta. Please note - no flights
to the area come via Padang or any other airports.
As a rule, at the beginning of your trip, we advise landing in the morning or early afternoon, no later than 2.30pm (into Jakarta), which then leaves plenty of time to catch your flight to Sumatra.
There are several domestic airlines that run from Jakarta to Bandar Lampung. Flight are just 40 mins in duration. Each airline caters for the travelling surfer and subsequently are surfboard friendly. Indonesian Airlines include Sriwijaya, Batavia, Garuda and Mandala Airlines to name but a few. Just google them and book online. Pricing varies a lot - but booking EARLY usually results in the lowets prices (approx $50 each way).
On return home, we advise that your flight leaving Jakarta, departs anytime after 3pm.
Although there are later flights we like to keep a buffer - as many flights can get delayed, even cancelled due weather. Therefore if you land in Jakarta after 14:30 customers might need to travel the following day. Please consider you have to disembark the plane and collect your baggage - and boards always come out last! Furthermore you have to get through customs and immigration, then transfer to the domestic terminal (30 mins) and then finally check in an hour before your next flight. (2hrs when travelling internationally!). So time is needed.
Surf Camp Sumatra will take no responsibility for any missed any flights.
Make sure you take out full travel insurance in case of domestic and international flight delay and subsequent consequences.
Staying in Jakarta - over night stay (if arriving after 2.30pm on the beginning of your trip)
Rooms at FM7 Hotel (click the link for more info) are approx US$69 and includes breakfast.
A representative from the hotel will meet guests at the exit of customs (International Terminal 2, or Domestic Terminal 1) and help them to the hotel free of charge (its approx 2km from the airport).
Furthermore, guests are recommended to change up a few hundred dollars worth of Indonesian Rupiah, before they leave their country of origin, for such taxi fares and also for any drinks they may wish to purchase at some of the local bars in the hotel's vicinity. The only other money you'll need for your trip will be for beers at the camp. However, its always best to have some "extra", in case of emergency.
There is no ATM's in Krui. The closest is 2.5hrs away (5hr round trip)
Please note this is the only Hotel we recommend. However, there are others around- there is The Aspac Quality Hotel (tel: (021) 559 0008 ) which is a three-star transit hotel at Terminal 2. There is also the four-star Sheraton Bandara (tel: (021) 559 7777 ; website: www.starwoodhotels.com) is also situated close to the airport; a hotel reservations desk can be found in each terminal.
Early morning flights with the transfer to the camp usually means guests arrive
at the camp around 3pm - in time
for a surf or two!
Airport Transfer - from Bandar Lampung to Krui - 5-6hrs (Up to 5 people/vehicle)
Pick-up from local airport and dropping guests off at the surf camp (return).
Guests are charged per vehicle, so groups of 5 work out the cheapest. We'll arrange this as part of your package.
One of our representatives will be waiting for you to take you to the camp. They'll be holding a board - with "your name" on - after you clear customs and immigration in Sumatra.
Obviously travelling alone will work out more expensive. Although travelling off your own back is feasible - we do not recommend it. |
